At first glance, all clear glass may look the same—but there's a noticeable difference between standard clear glass and low iron (ultra clear) glass. What is Standard Clear Glass?
Standard clear glass contains natural iron content as part of the manufacturing process. While it still appears clear, the iron creates a subtle green hue, especially noticeable:
- On thicker glass (3/8", 1/2", and above)
- When looking at the glass edge
- Against white or light colored tile
- In high-end, minimalist designs
In many applications, the green tint is minimal and perfectly acceptable. For most bathrooms and shower enclosures, standard clear glass provides beautiful, clean results.
What is Low Iron (Ultra Clear) Glass?
Low iron glass—often referred to as ultra clear glass—is manufactured with significantly reduced iron content. This process removes most of the green tint and results in:
